The IDIA is governed by a nine member board of directors who are elected every two years by the active members. Membership is limited to sworn law enforcement personnel, civilian employees of law enforcement agencies whose duties relate to death investigations, retired law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, medical examiners, and medical examiner investigators.
